Kochi: Senior photojournalist of United News of India (UNI), T Kumar 56, was found dead inside his office in Chennai on Sunday night, media reports said.
He is survived by wife, a daughter and a son.
Chief of the Chennai bureau of the news agency, Kumar was found hanging from the roof by a colleague. Kumar was facing serious financial crises as he was not getting wages for several months.
He was struggling to find money to treat his wife who had met with an accident.
He was also making arrangements to marry off his daughter.
Expressing his condolences, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin ordered payment of solatium of Rs 3 lakh to Kumar’s family.
Brihanmumbai Union of Journalists (BUJ), Mumbai, expressed shock and anger at the tragic death of Kumar.
The over 250 employees of UNI have been under severe financial strain as there has been a delay and a backlog in the payment of their earned wages for 60 months.
UNI is a national news agency and is run by a Board of Directors.
