Kochi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the situation post landslide hit areas of Wayanad in north Kerala on Saturday. He went on foot to the affected regions of Chooralmala and interacted with the people.
He walked through the 190-foot-long Bailey bridge built by the army after the existing bridge was washed away in landslides. Modi interacted with rescue personnel, state chief secretary V Venu and district officials.
He visited relief centres where he interacted with calamity hit people, and others.
The Prime Minister visited a relief camp at St Joseph’s School, Chooralmala.
Modi interacted with the survivors and healthcare staff at the WIMS, Meppadi.
Modi was briefed about the calamity by Kerala Chief Minister and Chief Secretary. The Governor also accompanied him.
The Prime Minister visited the badly damaged GVHS school, Vellaramala, and enquired about the affected students. He also enquired about future plans of the school to bring normalcy.
Earlier, Modi arrived in Wayanad in a helicopter from Kannur airport. Modi conducted an aerial survey of Chooralmala, Mundakkai and Punchirimattam on board the IAF helicopter which later landed at the SKMJ Higher Secondary School, Kalpetta. From there he went to Chooralmala by road and interacted with people.
Places like Punjchirimattom, Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, Meppadi and Kunhome villages witnessed multiple landslides in the early hours of July 30, 2024, killing at Least 423 people, injuring over 378 and leaving more than 138 people untraceable.
