Kochi: Starmer resigned as Prime Minister and leader of the Labour Party after losing elections.
In a statement, he said every decision he has made in office has been about “putting the country I love first”
He thanked his wife who he described as his “rock”. He said he wanted to be the “best dad I can to my beautiful children”, BBC reported.
He said he will remain in post until Labour chooses a new leader “before Parliament returns in September”.
Andy Burnham is currently viewed as a strong potential successor to Starmer.
Burnham will be sworn in as MP for Makerfield after winning a by-election last week.
