Kochi: Appointment of Kerala Chief Minister’s Personal Secretary K K Ragesh’s wife Priya Varghese in Kannur University received a jolt as the UGC has rejected her experience claims.
The UGC standing counsel told the Kerala High Court that the research period is not considered as experience while applying for a job contrary to the claims of Priya.
The court has directed Pirya and Kannur University to give clarification on the matter in writing. The court also directed the UGC standing counsel to submit its position in writing.
The court will further hear the case on September 16. The stay on the appointment of Priya would continue till then.
The matter came before the court as the SB College, Changanassery, Malayalam department head Joseph Scaria challenged Priya’s appointment and pleaded to prepare a fresh rank list sans Priya Varghese.
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan had also stayed the appointment of Priya in response to complaints by Save University Campaign outfit and others.
Priya was appointed bypassing all other aspirants who had secured much higher marks than her, the complaints alleged.
Priya was appointed in November just before the extension of service of the Vice Chancellor.
