Kochi: Cultural capital Thrissur is one city that is not shy of trying novel ways to implement ideas that turns out to be a major success.
One such project successful tried by Thrissur
Corporation is leasing out of the dull looking Vadakke stand to South Indian Bank which has meticulously converted it into a lovely little modern bus bay.
Tired of maintaining the bus stand properly, the corporation finally decided to entrust the upkeep of the bus stand to the South Indian Bank on a ten years lease.
The bank using money out of its Rs 5.5 crore CSR funds has made the stand look like one seen in developed countries.
Covered bus bays, clean comfort stations, rest rooms for bus crew, comfortable waiting facilities, ATMs among others make it rare in the state.
The best part of it is the Sona Hotel run by the
SIB catering to the needs of not only the bus passengers and bus crew, but also the public passing by the bus stand.
The airconditioned hotel offers delicious vegetarian and non-vegetarian delicacies at a budget rate.
Kudos to the corporation for its initiative to do something which could be a begining of revolutionary change in the state where public money is lost in corruption.
