Kochi: Kerala government is planning to dissolve Waqf Board as many of its members were legally not qualified to occupy their posts. The rulings of the Supreme Court and High Court of Kerala imposing restrictions on its members have led the government to wind up the Board.
The government is planning to issue notification to dismiss the members.
Two members belonging to Muslim community will be nominated later. The state government had informed the High Court the need for reconstitution of the Board.The Kerala High Court had on July 15, 2026, passed an interim order restraining the Kerala State Waqf Board from taking policy decisions and incurring capital expenditure citing errors in the constitution of the Board. The High Court direction to the Joint Secretary in the State Government dealing with Waqf matters to temporarily supervise its functioning was stayed by the Supreme Court. The Kerala Waqf Board has informed the Supreme Court that neither its Chairman nor its members face any allegations in connection with the functioning of the Board.
