Kochi: In a major security breach, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was stuck up on a flyover as protesters blocked his way at Hussainiwala in Ferozepur in Punjab on Wednesday.
Modi landed at Bhatinda and decided to take road to offer tributes at the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala as the climate was not favourable for air travel, media reports said.
It was during his road travel his convoy was waylaid for about 15 minutes by the farmers’ unions on the flyover, the reports said.
The centre has sought a report from the Congress-ruled state government about the matter even as the BJP has accused the state government of endangering the life of the Prime Minister about 10 kms away from Pakistan border.
Modi returned after cancelling his programmes in Punjab.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi denied that there was a security lapse. He said that the whole episode was stage managed by the BJP as there was very poor turnout for Modi’s programme in the state.
