Kochi: A low profile leader, Chandy Oommen of Congress has rewritten history by breaking records in the Puthuppally by-election by a margin of 37,719 votes.
Chandy was ahead of his CPM rival from the time go. He kept increasing the lead shocking the rival camp. He broke records including that of his late father and other senior leaders.
A Delhi-based Supreme Court lawyer, Chandy was more focused into his profession as his father late Chief Minister Oommen Chandy never tried to accommodate him in any key position in the party.
It was his father’s illness that brought him to the state even as the CPM levelled allegations about depriving Medical treatment to Ommen Chandy.
The 37-year old bachelor, Chandy remained non controversial despite cyber attacks and negative campaign, has proved that his silence has paid the dividend.
It remains to be seen if he will continue to lead the ‘A’ group led by his late father against the ‘I’ group led by Ramesh Chennithala who was in the forefront of the campaign.
Chandy wins by over 37,719 votes
