Kochi: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan tonight stayed the appointment of Priya Varghese in Kannur University as it became controversial.
Priya was appointed bypassing all other aspirants who had secured much higher marks than her. She was placed on top rank in the interview which led to the dispute.
The governor said that he would not allow nepotism as long as he is the chancellor of the university.
The Governor also issued a show cause notice to the Vice Chancellor Gopinath Raveendran in this regard.
Priya was appointed in November just before the extension of service of the Vice Chancellor.
This triggered the controversy which led to the delay in appointment. Finally, the syndicate cleared her appointment last month.
Again it led to protests and the appointment was challenged by the aspirants and the Save University Campaign outfit.
The Vice Chancellor said the university would move the court against the stay.
