Fresh rains drench South Kerala

Kochi: Water from Idukki dam was released as the water level reached 2,398.9 feet while water level in Mullaperiyar dam crossed 140 feet mark.

About 40,000 cusecs of water was released from one sluice of the Cheruthoni dam in Idukki.

Release of water from Idukki dam was carried out to receive water discharged from Mullaperiyar dam if Tamil Nadu released water.

The water  level has crossed the 140 feet mark in Mullaperiyar dam. 

Tamil Nadu has alerted Kerala about the possibility of releasing water even as it has started taking more water to Vaigai dam.

Meanwhile, three persons, including two children, were killed in Kerala. Night travel has been imposed in hilly areas including Idukki and Thrissur.

Landslip was reported in Parasala near Thiruvananthapuram where heaps of earth caved in over the railway track following which train services through the section were suspended. Weather office has predicted three days of rain in the state.

Restrictions have been imposed on the hill shrine of Sabarimala in view of heavy rains in Pathanamthitta district.
