Kochi: In a major achievement, India completed vaccinating 100-crore people against coronavirus on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that this was due to the collective effort of the countrymen among others.
Modi attributed the achievement to all Indians, vaccine makers, health workers and all others involved in the programme. Dr VK Paul, Member-Health, NITI Aayog praised the health workers and said the feat was achieved in nine months.
The vaccination started on January 16 by immunising health care workers in the first phase and the frontline workers from February 2. The active caseload stands at 1,78,831, according to the Ministry of Health’s latest data. The recovery rate is 98.15 per cent. The death toll now exceeds 4.52 lakh.
