Kochi: Bringing an end to speculations, parliamentary membership of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been restored, media reports said.
The Supreme Court had stayed his conviction by a Gujarat court in a 2019 defamation case over his ‘Modi surname’ remarks, the reports said.
His return was made possible after the Lok Sabha secretariat issued a notification in this regard, the reports said.
Rahul Gandhi received a grand welcome from the Opposition MPs as he entered Parliament after offering prayers to Mahatma Gandhi.
The criminal defamation case was filed by former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi for his alleged remarks that “How come all thieves have Modi as the common surname?”
