Kochi: Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was arrested under non bailable offenses in connection with an alleged scam of Rs 317 crore, media reports said.
Naidu has been charged under sections of criminal conspiracy, cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property among others. Provisions under Prevention of Corruption Act have been slapped on him, media reports said.
The scam involves Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation which was set up during his tenure to provide skill training to youngsters.
The Andhra Pradesh Criminal Investigation Department sleuths took him into custody early this morning.
The officers had made an unsuccessful bid to arrest him yesterday at Nandyal, but failed as his party workers protested against it.
A post on Naidu’s official X (Twitter) account read that “no force on earth can stop me from serving Telugu people”.
“For the past 45 years, I have selflessly served Telugu people. I am prepared to sacrifice my life to safeguard the interests of Telugu people. No force on earth can stop me from serving Telugu people, my #AndhraPradesh and my motherland,”.
