Dileep case: SC rejects survivor’s plea

Kochi: The Supreme Court has rejected the survivor’s plea to change the actor abuse case, involving Malayalam actor Dileep, to a different court.

Dismissing the prayer,  a Division Bench said that the frequent discussions and debates by the media had created wrong perceptions about the case among the public including the petitioner.

In her petition, the survivor had alleged that she would not get justice from the trial court as Dileep had close ties with the Judge’s husband.

The survivor alleged that there were several instances where the special public prosecutor was unable to proceed in the case. There were attempts made by Dileep to influence and intimidate the witnesses, she alleged.

Two public prosecutors had quit the case and late MLA P T Thomas, who was a witness, had expressed concern over the matter in which the trial was being held.

The survivor, who is a popular South Indian actress, was abducted and abused and videographed inside a car on the night of February 17, 2017.

Dileep was booked in another case after the investigation team led by S Sreejit, ADGP, Crime Branch, gathered a number of digital evidence against him to dilute the actor abuse case.

The investigation team had also found unauthorized access to a memory card containing the secret video which was in the safe custody of the court. It was at this time when Sreejit was shifted as Transport Commissioner.
