Kochi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has moved the Delhi High Court seeking capital punishment for Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chief and Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik.
A division bench of the court will hear the case on May 29.
A Special NIA court had sentenced
Malik, 57, to life imprisonment in a terror funding case last year. The trial court had rejected NIA’s demand for capital punishment for Malik who had pleaded guilty in the case, media reports said.
The special court rejected NIA’s plea stating that the death penalty should be awarded only in exceptional cases.
NIA had arrested Yasin Malik in a case related to alleged terrorism and secessionist activities in the Kashmir Valley in 2016-17.
