Kochi: In a blow to 29 lawyers, the Kerala High Court has initiated contempt proceedings against them for allegedly abusing a female Magistrate in Kottayam.
The lawyers had also boycotted court proceedings as a protest against the Chief Judicial Magistrate booking lawyer Nawab M P in an alleged fraud case under various sections of the IPC.
A division of the High Court decided to move against the lawyers after perusing reports received from the CJM and the Kottayam District Judge.
Describing the allegations raised against the lawyers as serious in nature, the court directed the registry to send notice to the advocates.
The Bar Council of Kerala has constituted a panel to enquire into the matter. The High Court will hear the matter on November 30.
