Kochi: The Supreme Court has upheld the Kerala High Court’s verdict quashing the appointment of late CPM MLA K K Ramachandran Nair’s son R Prasanth on compassionate grounds in 2018.
A bench headed by the Chief Justice asked how an MLA’s son be given an appointment. However, the court protected the salary received by Prashanth who was appointed in PWD by the cabinet.
The matter came before the Apex Court after the Kerala government challenged Kerala High Court’s decision to quash the appointment observing that it was a violation of Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution.
The Kerala High Court had quashed the appointment after a native of Palakkad challenged the appointment of Prashanth saying that kith and kin of government servants are only eligible for such benefits.
