Kochi: The women’s reservation bill seeking 33 per cent women’s quota in legislatures was tabled during the special session of Parliament on Thursday, Times of India reported.

131st Amendment and the Delimitation Bill 2026, while Home Minister Amit Shah proposed to introduce the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The Congress opposed the bills claiming that it was an attempt by BJP-led Government to alter the constitutional fabric of the nation.
The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, otherwise known as the Women’s Reservation Bill, is a constitutional amendment that seeks reservation of 33 percent of seats in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies for women.
The Lok Sabha seats are expected to increase from its current strength of 543 seats to 850 to reserve one-third for women.
The Bill passed in 2023 is waiting for delimitation exercise based on the 2027 Census to implement reservation by 2034 under the original law.
The delimitation exercise is an exercise to redraw constituencies for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, based on population as directed by mandated by Article 82 of the Constitution.
Three delimitation exercises were undertaken in since independence.
The opposition has accused the overnment of planning to link it with delimitation ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
