Rains claim six lives, trigger floods

Kochi: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the government is taking all precautions across the state based on the experiences the state had endured in the past few years in the state.

The rains have claimed six lives and one person has been reported missing.
Five houses have been damaged in floods and 55 houses partially, Pinarayi said.
One person is missing. South Kerala and Central Kerala are experiencing heavy rains and later it will pass through North Kerala, he said.

The state is expecting over 200 ml of rain in the next 24 hours. If it continued for four days, it may create a crisis, he told reporters.
Four additional contingents of NDRF are expected soon and they would be deployed in Kottayam, Ernakulam,  Kollam and Malappuram districts.

Water from 17 dams under the control of the irrigation department has been released.
Presently there is no need to release water from big dams under the control of KSEB.
Meanwhile, district collectors have announced a holiday on Tuesday for educational institutions in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam , Idukki and Ernakulam.

In some places examinations have not been changed. The weather office has predicted very heavy rains in the state until August 4. 
Red alerts have been declared on August 2 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki.

The districts where Red alert has been sounded on August 3 are  Kollam, Pathanamthitta , Malappuram, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkalad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad.
Areas where Red alert has been given on 
August 4 are Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikkide, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod. The 24 hours control room number is 807 8548 538.
