Kochi: Eight convicts in the 2002 Godhra train burning case were granted bail by the Supreme Court today.
However, the Apex Court rejected applications of four others who were convicted to death.
The bail was granted in view of the convicts spending 17-18 years in prison.
Earlier, the Gujarat government had opposed petitions seeking bail in the case.
Fiftynine persons were killed in the Godhra train burning incident on February 27, 2002, in Sabarmati express, carrying kar sevaks from Ayodhya.
This triggered violent communal riots in Gujarat.
A special court had yesterday acquitted all the 67 accused in the Naroda Gam case.
The attack on Naroda Patiya began on the morning of February 28, 2002, after news of the Godhra train burning spread across Ahmedabad.
