Kochi: Former Bangladeshi Premier Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday announced plans to return home in December ending her stay in India where she is in exile after a bloody crackdown on protesters in 202 in Bangladesh.
In an audio address to her people on the second anniversary of the uprising, Hasina said it was her duty to return despite a Bangladeshi court sentencing her to death on charges of crimes against humanity, media reports said.
Hasina fled to India in 2024 after student-led protests forced her from power.
Bangladesh has repeatedly sought Hasina’s extradition, but India has so far declined to hand her over.
There is a ban on her Awami League party and many of its members political prisoners.
