Clash between YC, cops

Kochi: Tension prevailed today at Thiruvananthapuram during a Youth Congress protest march against police’s action against Congress leaders who protested gainst Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan during his mobile redressal trip with his cabinet across the state, media reports said.
The Youth Congress organised the protest coinciding with Pinaray’s entourage entering the state capital signaling the end of his statewide mobile secretariat campaign.
Police used water cannons at activists who tried to jump the barricade when the activists hurled stones and slippers at the police.
The Youth Congress led by its state chief Rahul Mamkoottathil raised slogans against the Chief Minister and police for bashing KSU, Youth Congress leaders across the state during chief minister statewide trip.
The protest culminated in a clash between the police who used mild lathi charge to disperse the protesters.
Opposition leader V D Satheeshan and Shafi Parambil, MLA, reached the spot to study the situation.
Satheeshan accused police of tearing the clothes of women leaders, some of them sustained injuries. Satheeshan took the injured in his car.
Later, the leaders moved to the party office where the police reached to arrest the leaders who had been booked.
