Madras HC’s restriction on Arikkomban

Kochi: The Madras High Court has restrained Tamil Nadu forest department from releasing it in the forest.
The Madurai bench of the High Court issued the order while considering a petition of the animal rights activist Rebeca Joseph who challenged the translocation of Arikkomban.
In her appeal, Rebeca Joseph, said that the animal was sick and injured and it was not proper to release the elephant in deep forests.
The petitioner prayed before the court to send the elephant back to Kerala for treatment.
The court will be hearing the case on Tuesday.
Arikomban was captured by tranquillising this morning from a farm in Usilampatti in Theni district in Tamil Nadu. Three Kumki elephants were used to force the tusker enter Animal ambulance.
The forest department was planning to release Arikomban in the Tirunelveli forest range.
The elephant was captured from Chinnakanal in Idukki district of Kerala on April 29 and relocated to Periyar Tiger Reserve (PTR) on the direction of the Kerala High Court.
