Kochi: In a setback to the ruling Left government, the reappointment of Gopinath Ravindran as Vice-Chancellor of Kannur University was quashed by the Supreme Court on Thursday.
A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, in a judgment set aside the Kerala High Court verdict upholding the re-appointment of Ravindran.
The court took objection to the Kerala government’s “unwarranted interference” in the re-appointment and the resultant abdication/surrender of his statutory powers by the Chancellor/Governor.
Meanwhile, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan alleged that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had pressurised him to clear the reappointment of the Vice Chancellor.
