Kochi: The active Covid cases in Kerala has gone upto 1,749 while 115 new cases were recorded on Monday.
Kerala has 89.38 percent of the country’s total cases of 1,970 cases. A total of 142 cases were reported in the country on Monday.
Kerala has the credit of conducting maximum
tests due to which the cases in the state are on the higher side.
The Union Health Ministry has issued strict guidelines to all the states in this regard. The direction includes intensification of
screening, social distancing, avoid gatherings, increase RT PCR, antigen tests, using masks, awareness and share all details with the union government.
Positive cases genetic group examine.
The new variant Covid JN.1 was first detected in Kerala in the country. JN.1 variant is said to be a mutation of the Omicron sub-variant B.A.2.86 or Pirola which is more transmissible and can evade vaccines. The first case was detected in the US.
The government will impose travel restrictions, mainly for those coming from countries where it has been detected.
The government has also advised states to ramp up their surveillance and testing which includes monitoring and reporting District-wise Influenza-like Illness (ILI) and severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) cases in all health facilities regularly including in the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) portal, for detecting the early rising trend of cases.
Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya will be conducting a review meeting on 20th December with Health Ministers and additional Chief/Principal Secretaries (Health) of all States/UTs and relevant Central Ministries/Departments on the preparedness of health facilities and services given the recent upsurge in respiratory illness such as Influenza Like Illness/Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (ILI/SARI) (including by COVID-19).
