Kochi: Powered by captain Rohit Sharma’s century, India thrashed Australia by an innings and 132 runs in three days in the first of the four-match Border-Gavaskar series in Nagpur on Saturday.
Winning the toss, Australia made 177 runs in the first innings. In reply India made 400 runs, Batting in the second innings, the visitors were bowled out for a paltry 91 runs. This was Australia’s second lowest total against India after 93 in Mumbai in 2004.
Rohit Sharma’ banged 120, Axar Patel 84, and Raveendra Jadeja 70. Debutant Tod Murphy of Australia took 7 wickets and Cummins 2.
Raveendra Jadeja took five wickets in the first innings and Ravichandran Ashwin three.
In the second innings Ashwin claimed five wickets. With this victory, India has gone one up in the four-match series.
