“Kerala tops personal use of drugs”

Kochi: Kerala with 15.3 percent topped in possession of drugs for personal consumption while Arunachal Pradesh stood second with 14.2 percent and Punjab third with 13.8 third during the year 2021, as per the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

Punjab topped the list of crime under the NDPS Act with 32.8 per cent, Himachal Pradesh second (20.8 per cent), and Arunachal Pradesh third (17.2 percent).

There was an increase of 15.3 percent in crime reported against women in 2021 compared to the year 2020.

The lowest NDPS Act crime was reported in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

Uttar Pradesh reported highest number of murders at 3,717, followed by Bihar 2,799 and Maharashtra 2,330.

The country recorded the highest sucide in 2021 at 1.64 lakh which is an increase of 7.2 percent with maximum cases of 22,207 reported from Maharashtra, followed by Tamil Nadu (18,925), and Madhya Pradesh 14,965. A majority of 33.20 deaths were due to domestic issues 33.2 percent and illness 18.6 percent.

One in four who ended their lives was a daily wage earner. The daily wagers were top in suicides in 2020.
