Kochi: Three youth were sent to 90 years Rigorous Imprisonment by a Idukki Court for raping a teenager from Bengal in Poopara in the district, media reports said.
The Devikulam fast-track court imposed a penalty of Rs 40,000 penalty on each who will have to serve 25 years each in jail as all the sentences under different sections of IPC and POCSO Act will run concurrently.
Sugandh, 20, Sivakumar, 21, and Shyam, 21, were convicted for raping the 16-year-old in a tea garden in Poopara on May 29, 2022 under various sections of the IPC and POCSO Act. There were six accused in the case out of them two were juvenile while one was acquitted by the court.
