Kochi: Veteran Congress leader K Sankaranarayanan, 90, passed away at his house in Palakkad.
He was suffering from old age illness.
Starting his career as a local scribe, Sankaranarayanan became active in politics at grassroot level.
He came up the hard way without any god father to back him.
He was Palakkad District Congress Committee president from 1962 to 68.
He worked at different levels in the party and had the privilege to work with Congress leaders Nijalingappa and K Kamaraj.
He was UDF convenor from 1985 to 2001.
He was a Minister in the state a few times.
He had also served as the governor of Maharashtra, Nagaland, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Goa.
