Court directs police to book Jaleel

Kochi: In a blow to Kerala legislator K T Jaleel, a Delhi court has directed the police to register a case against him for his controversial remarks on Kashmir.

The court gave the direction while hearing a petition filed by one G S Mani whose complaint against the former state minister Jaleel was pending unattended by the Tilak Nagar police.

The police said that a case in this regard was pending against Jaleel for his remarks in a Facebook post in Pathanamthitta in Kerala.

At this the petitioner said that he had no faith in the police and related system in Kerala. Following this the court directed the police to register suitable charges against Jaleel, media reports said.

The petitioner said that a sedition case should be filed against Jaleel failing which he would again go to court, the reports said.

A former leader of banned SIMI, Jaleel had faced charges of nepotism and violation of protocol for communicating with UAE Consul General illegally when he was a minister in the LDF government’s previous term. He is NIA’s  witness to the smuggling of 30 kg gold through diplomatic baggage.
